We have been invited to display at the Kamin Science Center for Locomotion Weekend in January 2026. We don’t have an official date yet but in past years it has been held on the second weekend of January.
Official dates for the Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall have been established. Setup will be on Thursday, April 9, 2026 starting at 4:00 pm. Show dates are Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. We have a starter train set to raffle off and need to decide if we want to use tickets or a scavenger hunt.
The club will be for youth starting at 10 years old accompanied by parents. The purpose will be to further interest in model railroading and to provide information and hands on learning for new and experienced railroaders. The club will be O-gauge in scale and feature modular construction. Nick requested that the SHMRRC be involved in providing knowledge regarding starting and operating a model railroad club and also to possibly support it with demonstrations on specific skills used in the hobby.
Club members agreed that they would be willing to help and offered suggestions regarding layout arrangement, module size, and tips on ways to avoid problems before they happen.
Since the club will involve minors a suggestion was made to research the need for background checks and authorization to work with youth. Since it will be a parent/child club we have no information about whether it would be required or not.
Rich Aubel agreed to be the contact between Nick and the SHMRRC.
Jeff Graybill reported on an interesting N-scale modular concept that used hexagonal modules that have the flexibility of being assembled in any configuration.
Dave Damp presented a collection of Conrail engines that he has recently acquired.
